It was the 20th April 2006 when we launched our original forums.
Fast forward to today, 241,422 forum posts and some 53,121 forum members later, I think it’s safe to say that the forums have been a great success.
One thing that wasn’t so successful about the forums was the software we were using.
It didn’t integrate well with the software we use for the articles section of our site, we’ve experienced a number of security holes which were difficult to fix and in general, it was a bit of a pain in the proverbials to maintain.
Providing the means for our site visitors to ask questions and get support continues to be of paramount importance to us and after much thought and deliberation we have decided to make the decision to start from scratch.
Our new “community” forums are available at http://www.gettingdownunder.com/community (or via the forum link at the top of each page) .
We really hope that you take the opportunity to register and join the other visitors to our site who are travelling the same journey with you.
Like any ‘new’ forum, it’s a little quiet in there at the moment however we are confident that we can quickly rebuild a great community… with your help..
Obviously we recognise that over the last 7 and a half years (wow.. that is a long time) a lot of valuable information has already been shared within our old forums. As such, we’ll continue to provide read only access to our old forums until such a time that we feel the information is no longer current or of use.
Please be assured that this wasn’t a decision we made easily however in the long term, the closer integration with the rest of our site will make the user experience for all our visitors a much better one.
